Once I saw the light in your eyes,
but the last thing I saw was fear hidden behind the confusion of denial…
like a pillar of salt, I was useless to hold up anything but myself,
so I turned away with a prayer…
Where once stood a man is now a mirror of my past,
and though I don’t know his future,
I know the choices that he will face
and the road to redemption within.
All the while, I feel the sting of lonliness
when doing what’s right once again
means to turn away
from the comfort and familiarity of the feeling of belonging…
